"The series is like a great book, there’s many layers, each scene connects a certain concept, she gives us room to come up with our own understanding, it’s very humane - it’s not a dooming story or one dimensional." - HellooWorld

It might not be the right time
I might not be the right one
But there's something about us I want to say
'Cause there's something between us anyway

I might not be the right one
It might not be the right time
But there's something about us I've got to do
Some kind of secret I will share with you

I need you more than anythin' in my life
I want you more than anythin' in my life
I'll miss you more than anyone in my life
I love you more than anyone in my life

"This show is perfect in EVERY WAY! Michaela Cole is a dynamic force and I’m brimming with excitement for ANYTHING she chooses to create in the future!" - Atiyya Mubdi-Bey

Arabella (Michaela Coel) is a young Twitter-star-turned-novelist who found fame with her debut book Chronicles of a Fed-Up Millennial. She is publicly celebrated as a Millennial icon. While struggling to meet a deadline for her second book, she takes a break from work to meet up with friends on a night out in London. However, she is raped after drinking a spiked drink at a club. The following morning, she struggles to remember what had happened to her. Subsequently, she slowly recalls the events of the night with the help of her friends Terry and Kwame.

After running into her attacker again, Arabella's memory comes back to her. “Ego Death” is an entirely fantastical look at how Arabella could have responded to this sudden realization. Some of these realizations fall under the different types of stereotypes of the revenge rape genre’s hybrid of sexual violence, exploitation and reclaiming the physical self. Some of them also play into society’s unfair demand that victim forgives and understands abusers.

I May Destroy You is a British-American drama television series created, written, co-directed, and executive produced by Michaela Coel. The series is set in London with a predominantly Black British cast. Coel stars as Arabella, a young woman who seeks to rebuild her life after being raped. Coel has revealed that the story is based on her own experiences, as she was a victim of sexual assault herself during a late-night writing session for Chewing Gum. Situations are not always black and white, even when they should be. Coel unflinchingly explores these blurred lines through flawed characters in the drama.

The show is featured heavily on year-end lists. Metacritic listed it as the best TV show of the year based on critic top 10 lists, with more than thirty #1 placements.  French newspaper Le Monde includes I May Destroy You in its Top 10 of the best 2020 TV shows. It won the BAFTAs for Best Mini-Series, Best Actress, Best Director: Drama and Best Writer: Drama. In addition, it also won two RTS Programme Awards, a Gotham Award, a GLAAD Media Award, two Independent Spirit Awards, a NAACP Image Award and a Peabody Award. The series also received nine nominations at the 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series; it won two awards including Outstanding Writing for Coel.
